Watch Shawn Corkery of Genesis Flow break down a steel mace flow for you to try. Shawn connects three movements with the Mace and provides cues to assist you. Flow movements can be excellent for building total body strength while allowing the body to move freely in space.
Another significant benefit of “flow” movements or loaded movement training (LMT) is that the body learns to mitigate stress throughout the entire system rather than localizing it. A good comparison to consider is jump training. When teaching someone how to jump, they initially land hard and may even feel it in their lower back. As you guide them to dissipate the force through the body, the movement becomes less stressful on the ankles, knees, hips, and spine. The same applies to loaded movement training; you train the body to control stress efficiently.
To be rhythmic, which is authentic to our physiology. Our breathing, gait, and heartbeat are basic physical functions that rely on rhythm to be effective. Rhythm not only aids in improving skill acquisition but also in executing skills.
